Mug Shot [NBC with Buxton Coffee Roasters] by Buxton neutral

Rated on 2025-03-13 by BeerDorkNik at Black Cat Taproom

Quality: 50.5, Enjoyability: 65, Overall: 57.75

Black. Some tan foam on pour, dispersing, very thin halo retention but no lacing. Dark roast coffee aroma, lactic creamy under. Slightly burnt coffee taste and after. Tiny sharp bubbles. Too wet and burnt tasting to be ‘rich’ but maybe it was just too cold, and too late in the session, to appreciate it? Or, maybe it was just a bit shit. Look, I’m hard on coffee beers because I like coffee as much as I like beer, so they have to do justice to both…

Caramelised Biscuit Stout by Kirkstall positive

Rated on 2025-05-06 by BeerDorkNik at Asda

Quality: 60, Enjoyability: 55.5, Overall: 57.75

Black. Good tan head on pour, with good halo and OK surface retention, and OK lacing. Caramelised biscuit aroma (duh), bit Marmite malt under. Dark roast malt, slightly biscuit, taste and after. Some soft effervescence, but a bit watery. I’m reminded that ‘caramelised’ kind of also means ‘burnt’.

Sticky Toffee Pudding Stout (ASDA Collab Collection No. 3) by St. Ives Brewery neutral

Rated on 2025-05-08 by BeerDorkNik at Asda

Quality: 55.5, Enjoyability: 47, Overall: 51.25

Black. Good tan head on pour, with OK retention and little lacing. Dense, fig / date spiced aroma, rich toffee under. Roast, almost charred, taste, some sticky toffee after, with a lasting toffee/caramel sweet thickness. Gloopy. Knocked some points ff, as I couldn’t be bothered finishing – not _bad_, just profoundly _meh_.
