George Shaw & Co. Folly - Dunham Massey Brewing Co.

Rated on 2025-05-01 by BeerDorkNik at Bent's Warrington

Quality: 60, Enjoyability: 60, Overall: 60

Deep chestnut, with a slightly active open. Extremely large off white head on pour, with good retention and loose lacing. Nutty sweet aroma, bit dry under. Similar taste and after. Bit thick, tiny sharp effervescence. Doesn’t really give a style, so I has to take a guess – it’s a decent, straight down the middle Bitter.

Southwold Bitter (4.1%) - Adnam's

Rated on 2025-03-20 by BeerDorkNik at Home Bargains

Quality: 54.5, Enjoyability: 53, Overall: 53.75

Amber. Large off white head on pour, with very good retention and good lacing. Vaguely floral tea aroma, developing a bit cocoa under. Tannic fruitcake taste and after, bit wet. Disappointingly wet, in fact. Fizzy on the tongue effervescence.

1974 The Lost Weekend - Strawberry Fields Brewery

Rated on 2024-02-29 by BeerDorkNik at Black Cat Taproom

Quality: 49, Enjoyability: 42, Overall: 45.5

Amber. Good, off-white head as poured, with good retention and OK lacing. Bit cocoa, dried fruit, malt aroma. Weakly similar taste, drier more cocoa after. Brewed to celebrate 40 years of CAMRA, an I think it represents the painfully generical approach to 'Real Ale' that made me quit... Neil liked it, though.

Quality: 55, Enjoyability: 52.5, Overall: 53.75

Peach gold. OK head as poured, with good retention and OK lacing. Basic Bitter. Still not sure about brewr (not on pump), but it seems likea Black Sheep house. Also, different ABV than I found online, don't know if that means it's a different beer or just a slightly differnt ABV...

Old Forge - Half Moon Brewery

Rated on 2023-09-02 by BeerDorkNik at Walmgate Alehouse, York

Quality: 46, Enjoyability: 50.5, Overall: 48.25

Rich gold. Good head as poured, with very good retention and lacing. Smells like a light Bitter, with similar taste and after.

Guy Fawkes Bitter - Unknown

Rated on 2022-09-12 by BeerDorkNik at Guy Fawkes Inn, York

Quality: 49, Enjoyability: 47, Overall: 48

Amber, with a good head as poured. Basic Bitter - probably a chain house ale? Couldn't see a brewery on the pump, or get close enough to take a picture, and the only one online is FarceBok so I can't view full size…

Battle Axe - Rudgate

Rated on 2022-09-12 by BeerDorkNik at Golden Slipper, York

Quality: 53, Enjoyability: 51, Overall: 52

Amber, with a large creamy head as poured. Sweet, nutty, bit cocoa. Better than a basic Bitter, but not really a 'Best'. Mum was obsessed with the idea we should come here, so I decided to pop in. OK, but empty. Think the appeal was it does food and is dog friendly.

Bitter - Snowdon Craft

Rated on 2022-07-04 by BeerDorkNik at The Snowdon, Llandudno

Quality: 55, Enjoyability: 53, Overall: 54

Amber, with a good head on pour. (Near end of barrel, so head may've been more pronounced than usual.) Malty brown aroma. Basic Bitter. Missed out on trying some other Snowdon Craft beers, and I'm a bit disappointed this is the only one I managed to find...

Jeffrey Hudson Bitter (3.8%) - Oakham Ales

Rated on 2022-07-04 by BeerDorkNik at Palladium (JDW), Llandudno

Quality: 49.5, Enjoyability: 46, Overall: 47.75

Pale gold, good creamy head as poured. Weak lemon hop drink. I'll be honest, I was getting a bit desperate at this point, but went back to bed when I realised what I'd been reduced to…

Hope & Glory - Rooster's

Rated on 2022-06-01 by BeerDorkNik at Childwall Fiveways

Quality: 53, Enjoyability: 56, Overall: 54.5

Hazy gold. Good creamy head as poured, very good retention and solid lacing. Juicy hop aroma. Similar taste and after. Light, not what I'd expect from a Bitter.
